Student groups and committee opportunities
GRADS
GRADS is the FSoS graduate student organization designed to:
Foster a sense of community and fellowship among students
Represent student needs and communicate student feedback to the department
Promote student success in departmental and research pursuits
Mentor incoming students
COGS
The Council of Graduate Students (COGS) is the student organization that represents, advocates for, informs, facilitates communications among, and supports graduate students (most students who are seeking a research degree: a Ph.D. or a Masters that is associated with a Ph.D. program). Every research-based degree granting program at UMN-TC is entitled to have a representative who attends and votes at the General Assembly. [cogs.umn.edu]
Graduate and Professional Students in Education and Human Development (GradSEHD)
GradSEHD represents graduate and professional students in the College of Education and Human Development. Visit the GradSEHD website.
Committees with Student Representation
Students interested in serving as a student representative at faculty meetings are encouraged to volunteer. Advantages include developing an understanding of departmental concerns, getting to know faculty members, and learning about the University at large. Each cohort is invited to have a representative at graduate faculty meetings.
Students may also serve as a representative on the Council of Graduate Students (COGS), the official student council representing graduate students on the Twin Cities campus. Visit the COGS website for more information.
Students are also encouraged to become involved in student activities within the College of Education and Human Development.
